Description

Created in 1973, through Municipal Decree No. 4,522, and opened in 1975, Parque da Cidade preserves a significant remnant of the Atlantic Forest and sandbank in an area of 724,000 square meters. It is also the only place in the city where you can find several ornamental and fruit species, due to the transition from the Atlantic Forest to the dunes. Trees such as Oiti, Ipê and Pau-Brasil, as well as jackfruit, mango and sapodilla trees, are easily found on the ground.

Located between the neighborhoods of Santa Cruz and Itaigara, Parque Joventino Silva has been extensively revitalized to make it more contemporary and attractive to current urban dynamics. The proposal, presented in 2014 by the Municipality of Salvador, through the Sustainable City Secretariat, brought maintenance, conservation and expansion of the built area. Now, with new structures in the equipment, the soteropolitano has more living spaces with varied possibilities of sport, leisure and culture surrounded by nature.

The first step of the interventions focused on surrounding neighborhoods, which began to talk more freely with the areas of Parque da Cidade, from the replacement of walls with access gates and a new railing. The 3,700 meters of existing track in the park were also recovered, gaining an asphalt layer, a cycle path and new mileage signs, which improves the performance of joggers and walkers on the site.

Among the highlights of the interventions are: a permanent space for a graffiti workshop, the slackline circuit, soccer fields, volleyball and the implantation of one of the largest public skate parks in the country - all built following the most current trends in art and of sports.

For children, there are also three new integrative playgrounds - between built and renovated - with a project that considered accessibility for those with limited mobility. Confucius Square was set up for those who prefer to meditate, with the repositioning of the statue of the Chinese philosopher donated to Bahia by the province of Shandong, in China, where Confucius was born. The work, which was deposited in the park without due care, gained prominence in the center of the Square, from the requalification done in the area. Today, the place is one of the most frequented in the park.

In the field of plastic arts, the works Sala de Estar, Mosaicos and Jogo Capoeira, by Bel Borba, and Instabilidade, by Gabriel Fonseca, received new colors and gained prominence, making the park even more charming. The Dorival Caymmi Amphitheater, completely renovated and expanded, won a new set of bleachers, access ramps with handrails, widening the entrance, reforming the dressing rooms, fencing and the construction of bathrooms, offering more comfort to the public, artist and cultural producers . With all this, Parque da Cidade is consolidated as an integrated and accessible space for those who live and visit Salvador.

Security - The Municipal Guard, after renovation, started to operate 24 hours in the park, in partnership with the Military Police, not only to protect the citizen, but to guide him on the need to preserve the public and natural heritage of the place. Two motorbikes, two quads, a car and a pickup truck assist the Special Environmental Protection Group (GEPA) in patrolling the park's 72 hectares.
